An Application for Prior Approval for conversion from B1(a) offices to C3 residential had been submitted to Leeds City Council. The proposal included the conversion of the upper four floors of the existing building into 28 self-contained apartments for private market sale, with retention of the ground floor commercial use.
The type of accommodation to be provided differs from the majority of student accommodation that is currently available, which predominantly comprises of either:
- bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms arranged in clusters of three to six bedrooms with a shared lounge and kitchen (new purpose-built tower developments), or
- family dwellings located outside of the city centre converted into student bedrooms with shared lounge, kitchen and bathroom facilities
